The basic idea of GitOps is that all aspects of the infrastructure and application deployment are stored and versioned in Git repositories. Git, the popular version control system, acts as a &ldquo;single source of truth&rdquo;. Changes to the infrastructure and applications are controlled by Git workflows such as pull requests and merge operations and automatically applied to the corresponding environments.<\/p>\n\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_basic_principles_of_GitOps\"><\/span>4 basic principles of GitOps<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>GitOps is based on four fundamental principles:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Declarative infrastructure<\/strong>: You define the desired state of your infrastructure in declarative files (e.g. <a href=\"https:\/\/rock-the-prototype.com\/en\/learn-programming\/yaml\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"YAML is an easy-to-read language for data serialization for all programming languages.\" class=\"encyclopedia\">YAML<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/rock-the-prototype.com\/en\/learn-programming\/json\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"What is JSON? JSON, the JavaScript Object Notation, is a lightweight and flexible data format that is ideal for cross-platform data exchange. It is easy to read, easy to write and is supported by almost all modern programming languages.
